Im writing from Charlton, London, South East, after walking round being lost for what seems like a long cold few hours, getting wet and messy, having been looking at places to stay all day, and responding to adverts in Loot/Gumtree/wherever advertises/findaproperty, were getting there, sorting out the wheat from the chaff or whatever seed that grows from the property ladder of London.
With having gigs coming up in the very near future, were an excited bunch of people, though i know myself and Steven are, however im just betting Glen & Euan are too, though they remain up north while they have placed their entire trust in us to find them somewhere to sleep and i hope we can do them proud.
The gigs in london will hopefully be a well attended affair, getting them going is tough, those on facebook, find us and become part of the group, youll find us in the search, and youll have fun doing it tooooo!
The album has been bought by people, how many and where at we are yet to know, hopefully well find out later this month when the results etc come in, apparenlty though we made an appearcnce just outside the top 40 albums on sale nationwide, number 42, not bad for a band with no single /video play, just imagine whats going to happen when we get radio play, and people start hearing our beautfiul tooooons all over the airwaves.

Wish us luck for tomorrow, houses to be searched for.

Bonjour again, and how are you allω

Were keeping on Keeping on, in the words of Marvin or Curtis, thinking positive on our current outlook and position, we enjoyed ourselves at our album launch, and thanks to everyone who came, The End Bar for having our rawkous selves, Small Town Dogs for playing before, us and everyone who came and partied the night with us.We played a pretty monster set by our standards, but we have played longer before, i remember a night at the Roadhouse in Manchester a couple of years ago when all the hits were dragged out the box-o-songs and played, that was another 'ring yr shirts out' night, we work hard we play hard!

So hopefully youre exploring the site slowly, as we slowly bring some content and lovelyness to the world wide web, were creating information and little features for you to use our site for your needs, and deciding about certain tracks and songs to share with you, but waiting til the release of our album ' Palomino' - 13/10/08 -
REVIEWS:

"" Rock Sound: 7/10 - Formerly known as The Sound Explosion, this Brit-rock foursome have been gigging hard since their debut album in 05, and it shows. Happily, their latest full-length discards any former "garage rock" associations in favour of a more well-rounded approach. As opening tracks go, 'Enchantment' is as invigorating as they come, while 'Pastlife' is song-writing at its most simple and effective. By the end, it's clear that The Sound Ex are just as good at being raw and edgy (think X is Loaded / Colour Of Fire) as they are at playing the mainstream indie rock card (think Supergrass or Feeder at their rockiest). Definitely ones to watch. ""

"" underclass-music.com - Rock indé as its best !…un jeune groupe qui pratique un Rock décapant aux mélodies entêtantes…un patchwork de chansons super bien ficelées que l'on situera entre un The Cure sous acide et un My Bullet from My Valentine en plus graisseux et Rock ! Très belles enlevées et compos super efficaces ! A découvrir d'urgence ! ""

"" music-dash.co.uk - By Parker Knoll: Formerly known as the (hotly tipped) Sound Explosion, the rock and roll outfit from Newcastle grace us with a post-big-deal-at-Sony album. It's easy to see why the big boys didn't think Sound Ex would fit in. They're a purist rock band. There's no choppy beat or street poet squawking here. Instead, you find plenty of head squashing grunge and uplifting sing-a-long growls. “Pastlife” is refined enough to make all of this palatable and suitably angular for those who like a bit of punch in their music. “Born In To The Grave” provides the band with a heavier slab of rock, but there's still “Shaking Games” to serve up in an attractive Foos style broadcast of chartable fuzz. The Sound Ex may have a shorter name, but they've certainly not lost any of the qualities that previously got them noticed – they deserve more.""

"" Kerrang: KKK - Likely lad punkers from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne release noisy new album - You can tell The Sound Ex are an English punk rock band because their music sounds unpolished and raw. You could put it kindly by saying they can't really sing, but you could also say that it's good to hear a group who aren't Pro-Tooled within an inch of their white-toothed smiles. It may be damning The Sound Ex with faint praise to say this but this is a turn who sound like they could really kick up a storm in a live setting. Unfortunately, this isn't a live setting. Still, Palomino has it's moments, and comes thundering out of the speakers with enough conviction to grab your attention. For fans of The Subways, Leatherface. ""

"" Komodo Rock: 8.4 Hailing from my neck of the woods in good old Geordieland, 'The Sound Ex' are going to be one of the most important young bands ever to come out of Newcastle in the UK.

Wasting no time, they launch off with attention grabbing rocker 'Enchantment'. A bag full of attitude, this is fast and exciting and makes you want to hear more - which is fine because there are some outstanding tracks on this album.'Loss' has one of the best starts to any song I have heard since Nirvana were around. While they certainly could never be compared, in places 'The Sound Ex' have just as much passion in what they play, brought to the fore by some excellent production that adds real weight to the performance. 'Everything Will Be Fine' has a completely unexpected and clearly REM inspired opening then turns into a very haunting song with something to say. 'Shaking Games' will be kicking around your head for hours after you turn off your stereo - not that you will before listening to this again.I said there were some outstanding tracks on this album, and I wasn't kidding. 'Royal Blood' is a surefire hit which should appeal to fans of Smashing Pumpkins and Manic Street Preachers and is perfectly followed by the broodingly moody 'KIMB' and the incredible 'Born Into The Grave' - 2 minutes of near perfection with another excellent intro. 'Nine Mile Ride' is another guaranteed hit then 'Let It Turn' maintains the high quality of what is on offer and sets up closer and title track 'Palomino' quite beautifully - saving the best till last on what is an absolute corker of an album that just gets better with every play.I was invited to a live performance at the launch party for 'Palomino' and due to another long standing engagement couldn't make it, but after hearing this I am desperate to see this band live ! Don't get me wrong this isn't mainstream rock or metal, it's much more indie flavoured than that - but it still rocked my world.A better cover would have been nice, but I think this album has a seriously genuine chance of propelling 'The Sound Ex' towards Stereophonics or even Oasis like status - IT REALLY IS THAT GOOD.ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL.""

So weve had some positive things said about our hard work, and with this information were deciding to use our PRO-ACTIVITY and SELF-BELIEF and spend some concentrated time in the capital of the UK, LONDON KIDDDDDDSSSS!!!, if you have any suggestions where to live/stay/work/play/ then were all ears, us northern scum dont have much experience daaaahn sarf, so any ideas and were all ears.

Our recent Van worries have slowly been building up with us, on our current trip down to London to play Camden Barfly, travelling on the M1, just outside of grantham, half 8 in the evening so it was still light, a steady stream of cars, not busy, but not quiet enough to be a sunday evening, our van makes a noise, front left wheel, squeeling like a small dog that had been strapped to the tire, we pull over, get out and look at our front left wheel, smoke pouring from the inside of the wheel hub, and our wheel bearing had given out on us, after 180'000 miles and three times round the planet, the Trojan horse needed its horseshoes replacing. So a 4 hours wait on a wet motorway, a 4 hour ride with Michael in his Van-Saving maintenance truck, being left at a Ford Garage in Surrey, a 3 hour sleep and half 7 wake up walk ot the Ford garage, with the result of a £300 squid repair charge but a van with a modest sense of rolling on, we made the gig, played the gig, saved the gig, and felt sorry for the bands on after us, good luck to them though, i hope their current style of music continues beyond the 8-12 month shelf life that it has.
A thursday morning wake up call, telling us that we had been booked to play Sheffield Freshers Mania for about 3 months, but hadnt known about it, left us in a questioning kind of mood, but picked everyone up, friday evening, post work, and tried to refill the van here in Newcastle, which resulted in the shaft of metal in the plastic key coming out of the plastic holding, thus having to turn our Trojan Horses Locks with a Metal Shaft and Pliers, one safety method that has thieves scratching their heads in wonder!
But we travelled, played, impressed, tried to convert a large group of New2Uni kids into the wider world of Rock and Roll, instead of letting their bursaries pay for the liver failure, and we got everyone we set out to get.

So our plans as i sit writing this on a sunny Sunday afternoon, are, find somewhere to live in London at the end of October, slip a couple of live things up on the site for you to see if you enjoy, get a video or two of our fun up on here, get more gigs Dahn Sath, which were working very hard on and were slowly filling up the month of November with, repair my SG after smashing in on a cymbal at the end of the End Bar show, its playable and i love to play it for people, get some listenable things down and sorted, and get more gigs for you lovely people to hear us at, and let the world at large know who we are and what we stand for.

We really appreciate everyones support and were always thinking of you and how much people support our cause and get behind us, and for a group of people who write songs and make noise to try and make people happy, that is a very important thing to hold.

If we could play for each of you individually, we would do, let you pick the set list, play whatever you wanted, wherever you wanted, and hopefully sooner, rather than later, we will be playing near you all and you can come see and hear our songs, and say hello and introduce yourselves, well introduce ourselves.

Stay Safe, And Sound.

We will.

Mucho Amore.

Hello,

Well we did manage to get round t recording the MANU Tv thing and were trying to sort out the video type as we speak, figuring out if its a mp4, or .mov, or whatever, you know what i meanω
The first review of Palomino is released today, RockSound, have given us 7/10 and compared us to some bands, so its a positive start so far! And well have a picture up soon, and well also have the video and lots more stuff, if we get round to it.

So gig on Monday went well, we played hard, new songs, and brought the crowd to a stand still, i let someone play my guitar, and he, as he was already out of his tree, enjoyed it i think.

19th September - The End Bar - Newcastle Upon Tyne - Album Party

Well try and film it or whatever or take pictures or record it or something.

23rd September - Camden Barfly - London - Support gig for ThisCity

Were supporting the Emo Rockers, who we are hopefully hitting the road with in October, and seeing how they cope with our sound.

We hope to see people at both, say hello to us, shake our hands, shake your fists.

Much Love.

Post-Valient Thorr

Hola,

I think i enjoy playing in our band, sometimes its up and sometimes its down, getting along with your best friends isnt always plain sailing, but thankfully, especially when enjoying and working towards the same goal, its an enjoyable thing.
Losing my wallet on tour, playing to crowds that were less than expected, not given any time of the day, but still getting in peoples faces and playing ourselves, i think we could be put in any environment, in any room, and it wouldnt intimidate us, wouldnt confuse us, wed still lock into what we are and what were about. We have self-belief, and even if it takes time for people to catch up with what we are, for people to ignore us, were happy to not be part of a fad, or to have to tick boxes to fill in peoples potential.
I think i am slowly realising that there is no set way in life, that there is no certain and determined path for any one person to walk down and arrive at happiness/success. If its either ignorance, or bloody-mindedness,or even bloody-blindedness, it pays to be persistant and consistant, whether its consistently bad thus getting an answer to what the question is, which is is this a worthwhile endeavourω and as no one would persistantly be bad, we are a band who want to improve, who want to get better, who want to be writing better songs, pocket symphonies would be amazing to hear from our four minds, to boldly go somewhere that has yet to be mined for aural pleasure.
Anyway, Ramble Ramble Ramble, i lost my wallet in Kettering, when we played at Sawyers, which is a really nice venue, and we were well recieved on every night we played, Valient Thorr being very friendly and an enjoyable band to watch too.
And so, with Summer looming, in fact, with Summer already over our heads, were going to get a few gigs here and there, were going to practice alot, get some more songs recorded, get this website up and running and full to brimming with information.
Were going to get geared up for the release of 'Palomino' on September 22nd, and a long tour after it, were going to be playing everywhere, so come and catch up with us.

Well keep you updated with stuff thats going on.
Peace x

Kit.

I have a missing Colchester

Right now we should be in Colchester, warming up for our stage time at 2:30am so we can play our songs for the lovely people of Essex Uni, at their summerball 08, supporting someone.
But where am iω

At home, having just got the train back to the north east.

I have been in london for the last two days, catching up and seeing The Night Marchers, and having a generally positive time, exploring the sprawling city of convenience stores and halal meat markets, I was meant to be getting the train from Liverpool St Station to Colchester, meeting up with Glen/Stevey/Euan/Johnny/Maybe Chris, and playing the gig, which i was particularly looking forward to.

However, at 1 this afternoon, Stevey rang me to tell me our beloved Trojan horse had some problems with the brakes, now i know what you thinking, The Sound Exω Brakesω This band have their pedal to the metal 24/7, well yes and no, we need brakes so we can stop when we get to venues, so thus, one of the brake servo's was fucked and it was impossible to fix straight away, no doubt ill get the full story from those who were at the garage when the mechanic explained, however i was in london, so i had to try and get home, blah blah blah, return ticket ran out of time, got on a different train, had to get home from sunderland at half 10, train went via lincoln because of track problems, boring boring boring, i need to sleep now, for a van that has run this country for the last 40 years, our Trojan needs to pick up the slack a little.

Hopefully well play next years Summerball.
or at least, make it down there.

Roll On Valient Thorr!!!

Wilkommen

Welcome to our new website upon the internet.
Having been website-less for at least a year now, were up and running again, bringing you information about the worlds greatest ROCK AND SOUL MUSIC EXTRAVAGANZA!!!

So firstly the big news, 22ND SEPTEMBER - PALOMINO IS RELEASED!!, Thats right ladies and gentlemen, we're relasing the album that took us over 10000 miles to make and thats not including the miles and miles of twisted/snapped/broken guitar strings that it took to make these sounds.

Palomino, the album, was created by us in our Batcave,

and has been unleashed live in many venues, some people have had sneak previews, and some of you have checked out our myspace page to hear some of the new songs weve been playing live.

We have recently been ending our set with the ten minute long opus that is the title track, Palomino, so on the recent short Terrorvision tour, Nottingham/Bristol/London and Norwich have all been witness to our rock and roll firepower.
Having got back from Norwich at 5am Monday morning, and after having a sleep, we took stock to realise that, although short, the tour was a success, playing to new faces every night, passing out our album samplers, badges, new t shirts and 1st albums for sale, and of course, the all important mailing list (which EVERYONE should sign, even if you dont have an email address, just write your name on it, and well say hello personally!).
Obviously, as any band does, we had our ups and downs on tour, which is strange to say considering it was such a short one, but nevertheless, even living in each others pockets in the Trojan Horse for four days gets tough sometimes, and stupid things happen, but as long as you return the sunglasses, its going to be fine (apology needed xxx).

Heres a couple of bloglinks that mention how we were at the gigs, VERY positive.

http://forums.songstuff.com/blog/thelevellers/

Here is some actual proof we played Shepherds Bush Empire!!!
Fantastic Photos by Jacqui Black. (RubberfaceEndean strikes again!)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/jacquiblack/sets/72157605249292290/

As its been so long without contact from us, im just going to think forward, if any questions arise you know how to contact us, sign up to this here blog and ask away in the comments section, or leave us stuff on the messageboard, well be putting up pictures and stuff from all over the place so keep an eye out.
In the coming weeks we have some dates, Firstly, Summerball08 at Essex Uni!, we're rounding off a great year for many students, and of course, helping party and celebrate the end of exams (we all get tested by exams, so its a good moment to stop and appreciate the completion of them).
And then, on the 17th of June, we're heading out for another short 4 day tour with a band from North Carolina, at least thats where they say their spaceship landed from venus!, VALIENT THORR!!!!! who have come over to play Download, and decided to take us to a few venues around uk, some of which we havnt been to, so well be playing hard to impress!. Having researched Valient Thorr via youtoooooob and looked on their website, they look like a great band for a great night out, with us along for the ride too, itll be two energetic, song fueled, fist in the air, TRUE believers of Rock & Roll, were going to enjoy these ones.
On this website here then, well be updating it as regular as possible, with photos of everything we can take hopefully, at the moment were getting up a free track from the Palomino recordings, one that we recorded in Cornwall at The Sawmills & Propagation house, but we held it off the album as it didnt fit with the feel of the album, but you never know which route were going to go down, maybe the next album will include our dubstep number!
We'll be having a single released around this time as well i believe, you know the 22ND OF SEPTEMBER - PALOMINO IS RELEASED!! but the single will be downloadable which everything is these days, and cheap so dont worry about burning your plastic through the screen, we may even put some live recordings up too, and maybe some old boombox demos, artwork, and be amazed at the once skinny 18 year olds we oncer were having now mutated into the monsters we now are!!
Sign up for the mailling list, well be sending information and stuff out every month at least, so youll know where to go to see the show.

Thankyou For Sticking With Us, Long Haulω The Journeys The Most Fun Part Of It!

So, Stay posted, Stay Safe And Stay Sound, and youll be hearing from us soon.
One Love - BRAP!
